FLYER

The Fringe doesn't recommend shows.

It just lists thousands of them. Flyer learns what you loved last August and points you at the ones worth your evening.

How your match score works

This is Nick's own taste model — every show is scored out of 10 based on what he loved last August. It's not a general recommendation engine (yet!), so if you're not Nick, treat the score as one person's opinion. Points stack:

  • +6 — a comedian/act Nick's already seen and loved (Pierre Novellie, Wankernomics, Abi Clarke, Mhairi Black, Ahir Shah, Larry Dean, Trygve Wakenshaw, Lou Wall, Will Owen, Ivo Graham)
  • +1 to +6 — Comedy genre: base +1, then +3 if it's personal/character-driven (identity, coming-of-age, heartfelt, debut hour, storytelling), +2 if it's a high-concept/niche-subject premise (like Wankernomics), +2 if tagged "character comedy"
  • +3 to +5 — Cabaret and Variety genre (the Lou Wall lane), +2 more if it's explicitly drag/queer/LGBT+
  • +1 or +4 — Musicals and Opera: +4 if it's a parody/camp/spoof (the Jaffa Cake Musical lane), otherwise +1 for being a musical at all
  • +4 — Dance, Physical Theatre & Circus, if it's clown/physical-comedy/absurd (the Trygve Wakenshaw lane)
  • +1 — any show, regardless of genre, that's explicitly queer/drag/LGBT+ themed
  • +1 — Spoken Word that's comedic

Shows outside comedy, cabaret, musicals, and physical theatre (talks, jazz, film, exhibitions, classical music, kids' shows, etc.) mostly score 0 since there's no signal for them yet — turn off "Matches only" to browse everything, including other Edinburgh festivals (Book, Film, Jazz, Science, Art, Children's, Tattoo, EIF).
